Here we go again…another year of rock hall nominations…I feel like we’ve been through this before. Basically every year. Same arguments. Same cluelessness.
I’m not going to go into a lot about the nominations. The only surprise at this point is that they actually nominated both KISS and Deep Purple. While this should be a great thing, I really feel like it’s done just as a PR move. More specifically, I think they did it as a way to tell their fans to shut up and quit complaining. I don’t think for a second that KISS is getting in. However, I do think they’ll induct Deep Purple finally.
Nirvana is nominated for their first year of eligibility. I’m not a Nirvana fan, but they do deserve to be inducted. I don’t think it needs to be their first time, but I’m sure they will be. The only other artist worth mentioning is Link Wray. He basically created the power chord, so that puts him in as far as I’m concerned. The rest of the list just simply isn’t even worth mentioning. My picks (what I think will happen, not what should happen) for actual induction are Nirvana, Deep Purple, Cat Stevens, NWA, Chic and maybe The Zombies. It’s really just a guess other than Nirvana. They’re the only sure thing.
Unfortunately, there’s just not much to say about this year’s list. Same old snubs and non-rock arguments. They just continue to show their own biases and cluelessness. I’d think they do a lot of their choices just to spur conversation and publicity, but 1.) I’d hate to think the thought that little of the integrity of the nominations and 2.) I just don’t think they’re that smart. Anyway, I’m curious to hear your thoughts on this year’s list. Who do you think makes the final cut?
