  1. This is certainly a list of worthy contenders. There is one glaring omission, however: GRAND FUNK RAILROAD! No one rocked more than GFR nor sold more LPs back in the day, they predate many already inducted, and many of their most notable recordings were recorded in Cleveland at Cleveland Recording Company. I don’t know how they’ve been overlooked all this time. Their time up at the plate is long overdue!

  2. I hope I can add Echo & the Bunnymen to your list of bands.
Why do we have a museum that nominates and inducts artists based on their performance in the pop charts? I thought the purpose of museums is to curate art, musical or otherwise. Pop charts don’t lead you to the best music. They lead you to Kiss. Think of where popular opinion has led us in popular culture, The Kardashians. Why bother gathering experts in the music industry to judge when it is based on a quantifiable metric? How about considering how long and prolific they were? Who they were influenced by and who did they in turn influence? Did they write their own music/lyrics? Do they sound better in concert than in a studio? Did they advance art in other way; music videos, album covers, etc.? I’m in several international fan groups on FB, people have little regard/respect for the R&RHOF around the world. I really do think they need to re-evaluate their nomination/induction process. There are too many gaping holes. I’m still reeling from Green Day….Some of the people on the nominating committee need to be re-evaluated too. I heard John Lanigan is one. Does he even know music beyond 1960? It’s a mess and I’ve been told this by voting members, so you can imagine what it looks like from a distance. I know a board member resigned when they began replacing knowledgeable members with members from the local realty board. It needs a top-down evaluation. Personally, I would love to see Echo & Bunnymen nominated. There’s a gaping hole in British Rock history without them, especially in the post punk era (glam rock, new wave). They influenced bands like The Flaming Lips, Coldplay, Arcade Fire, Suede, etc.,…They are still producing albums and touring and continue with their cult following and festival success. Their music videos were beyond anything else being produced at the time. They are loved by a worldwide audience. They’re huge in South America, Europe, Eastern Europe the Far East and Austrailia. https://www.facebook.com/echoandthebunnymentotherockhall I want a museum to showcases artistic ability that may or may not have achieved economic success. Half of the art in The Cleveland Museum was painted by artists who did not achieve economic success in their lifetime. Stop the overwhelming push to induct pop chart stars. They’ve already been rewarded.

  3. I just wanted to tell you all here at Rocksnubs.com that I came up with two bands you can add to your website. This website completely shocked me because some of these bands I would definitely expect to already be in the rock and roll hall of fame. While looking at the list again, I realized that both Foreigner and Boston are also not in the hall of fame. Foreigner has been eligible since 1997. Boston has sen eligible since 1996. You should consider adding these to the list of bands that still need to be inducted, because they are classic rock groups that should be noted.

  4. I’d like to see Janet Jackson added to your list of “snubbed” artists. She’s deserving of at least a nomination and has been eligible since 2007.

I created a Facebook page in support of Janet’s induction near the end of 2012 and it’s about to surpass 20,000 followers. We’re pretty excited about that.

    Thank you for your time!

  5. how do I nominate TIM BOGERT to R/R hall of fame, Awesome BASS player who influenced so many back in the day of Hendrix, Doors, etc. Come on people…this was the Real *ROCK & ROLL* deal if you can remember!

  6. Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Dan Fogelberg was a multi-platinum selling artist. Dan hits such as “Leader of the Band”, “Longer”, “Same Old Lang Syne” and a large and diverse catalog of over 20 albums.
He albums produced by Joe Walsh and Toured opening act for The Eagles early in his career. He has still got a gigantic fan base and Dan Fogelberg passed away in 2007 after a three year battle with prostate cancer.
At 14 he joined a band, The Clan, which covered The Beatles. His second band was another cover band, The Coachmen, who, in 1967, released two singles written by Fogelberg on Ledger Records: “Maybe Time Will Let Me Forget” and “Don’t Want To Lose Her.” At the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign while playing local venues with a folk-rock band, The Ship. He began performing as a solo acoustic player in area cafes. One of these included the Red Herring, which is where he made his first solo recordings as part of a folk festival in 1971. He was discovered by Irving Azoff, who started his music management career promoting another Champaign-Urbana act, REO Speedwagon. Azoff sent him to Nashville, Tennessee to hone his skills. There he became a session musician and recorded his first album with producer Norbert Putnam. In 1972, Fogelberg released his debut album Home Free to lukewarm response. He performed as an opening act for Van Morrison.

Fogelberg’s second effort was much more successful—the 1974
Joe Walsh-produced album Souvenirs. In 1974 Dan helped The Eagles close out the year to 6,500 fans. His name started appearing not only with the Eagles but Jackson Browne, Eric Anderson, Buffy Saint-Marie, Roger McGinn, & Joe Walsh.

The song “Part of the Plan” became Fogelberg’s first hit. After Souvenirs, he released a string of gold and platinum albums, including Captured Angel (1975) and Nether Lands (1977), and found commercial success with songs such as “The Power of Gold”.
His 1978 Twin Sons of Different Mothers was the first of two collaborations with jazz flutist Tim Weisberg.

1979’s Phoenix reached the Top 10, with “Longer” becoming a #2 pop hit (and wedding standard) in 1980. The track peaked at #59 on the UK Singles Chart—his sole entry on that chart. The album reached #42 on the UK Albums Chart, likewise his only entry there. It was followed by a Top 20 hit “Heart Hotels”.

The Innocent Age, released in October 1981, was Fogelberg’s critical and commercial peak. The double album included four of his biggest hits: “Leader of the Band,” “Hard to Say,” “Run for the Roses,” (Released as a single the following year, it peaked at number 18 on the Billboard Hot 100. “Run for the Roses” was commissioned by the ABC television network for the 106th running of the Derby in 1980. It premiered on the network’s Derby night special the night before. It remains the unofficial theme song for the Derby today. Fogelberg stated that it was written in two days.) “Same Old Lang Syne” is a standard favorite Christmas Song that gets major airplay even today with all the other standard Christmas songs like “White Christmas”. It is one of his most popular songs still today. Dan drew inspiration for “The Innocent Age” album from Thomas Wolfe’s novel Of Time and the River.

A 1982 greatest hits album contained two new songs, both of which were released as singles: “Missing You” and “Make Love Stay.” In 1984, he released the album Windows and Walls, containing the singles “The Language of Love” and “Believe in Me.”

Fogelberg released High Country Snows in 1985. Recorded in Nashville, it showcased his and some of the industry’s best talent in bluegrass. Vince Gill, Ricky Skaggs, Doc Watson, Jerry Douglas, David Grisman, Chris Hillman, and Herb Pedersen contributed to the record.

Known for his many relationship songs, he confessed that he hadn’t had a lot of relationships and wrote based on his observations of other people’s relationships. The Wild Places, an album whose theme was the preservation of nature, was released in 1990 followed by a tour. His live “Greetings From The West” album was released in 1991.

River of Souls, released in 1993, was Fogelberg’s last studio album for Sony Records. In 1997, the box set Portrait encompassed his career with four discs, each highlighting a different facet of his music: “Ballads,” “Rock and Roll,” “Tales and Travels,” and “Hits.” In 1999, he released a Christmas album, The First Christmas Morning, and in 2003, Full Circle showcased a return to the folk-influenced 1970s soft rock style of music.

Please add him to your list of snubs, He and Joe Wash are going to be inducted into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame sometime soon. http://cmhof.org/events/dan-fogelberg-joe-walsh-barnstorm-caribou-ranch

  7. Surely you couldve had better things to say about the CARS then, We got tired of hearing their songs on classic rock radio,…. but that wont stop them from inducting this rock quintent. you couldve stated how they have a total of 20 hits and the band with two vocalists , Ric OCasek and Benjamin Orr and that new rock sound from the late 70s that everyone was crazy about

  8. The Shangri-Las! C’mom now! 11 singles in the Billboard charts in 2 years!

  9. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. S T E P P E N W O L F !

  11. I think Janet Jackson deserves to be in the conversations. She’s every bit as influential and successful as Madonna and her brother, Michael Jackson. And now that Donna Summer has been inducted, it’s logical that Janet be considered next.

  12. Hi ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME,

I tried twice using 2 legit emails and YET neither one went through.

What’s up with that? Maybe I made a mistake?

Since I AM “Rosalita’s” blonder and much nicer sister, I’m PRETTY sure that I know a little about rock & roll. Right, Bruce? He’ll testify to that. Oh yeah.

That makes just about as much sense to me as BON JOVI not being inducted into THE R & R HALL of FAME yet. I hate to even CHECK to see if JOAN JETT & THE BLACKHEARTS are in. No disrespect but perhaps you need some “fresh” ears. THE NEW YORK DOLLS were snubbed??

“Things that make ya’ wanna go hmmm”.

    “Yours Truly”,

    Carol Lisa Lozito,
“The Painter of the Endangered Species” TM

    and….a Sax Man’s daughter!

  13. I would be interested in knowing how many people on your site have named Duran Duran as one of their snubs. Please let me know! Thanks, Kirk

  14. I meant Heart and Steve Mariott.

  15. I would like to add LOVE and or Arthur Lee.One of the most influential groups in rock history. Their album Forever changes is one of the best albums ever. I would also like to mention Heart as the late great Steve Marriot.

  16. Hi! I heard recently that Christian Helwig contacted you from our Duran Duran to the Rock Hall of Fame effort (www.ddttrh.info). We have posted you as one of our friends. Can you please include us as a friend link? You can download our banners if you ‘Enter the Site’ and click ‘Help Promote’. Thanks! Kirk, Lead Effort Organizer, DDTTRH

  17. I nominate The Doobie Brothers to also be on the list.

  18. I’ve long since given up on the RRHOF – I’m in the John Lydon camp when it comes to the place – but you can go ahead and add Hall and Oates to the list of snubs. I don’t particularly care for their music, but there’s no reasonable argument *against* them.

Didn’t break a lot of ground, but let’s be honest here: It’s not like Neil Diamond was out there knocking down barriers.
